At the beginning of yard sale season, my obsession of choice this year (other than that elusive aluminum) has been vintage milk glass. A wise choice, as bits and pieces seem to turn up at most flea markets, bazaars and garage sales. I always feel somewhat accomplished when I find something that I was looking for. In celebration of Thrifty Thursday, hosted by Leigh who writes the blog Tales From Bloggeritaville, and Tablescapes Thursday, hosted by Susan who writes the blog, Between Naps on the Porch, and Julia's Hooked on Houses, Friday link up, I have put together this little tablescape.
A newly found vintage tablecloth with a map of The Garden State, New Jersey, in my favorite shade of chartreuse, with some milk glass finds and fresh Jersey produce.
The table is set up for a quick afternoon cup of tea with my Polish Pottery cups and teapot in an Autumn motif with pumpkins. The tea cups are sitting on vintage clamshell dessert plates, which are a translucent white, and go beautifully with the milk glass. The pedestal bowl holds tomatoes from our backyard garden, and the little rectangular milkglass piece, that I found in my mothers basement (how's that for thrift), is holding a variety of teas. The candleholders, which are my newest find were from a yardsale last week for a quarter.
Look at the back side of the candleholders. They are shaped like daisy's...just tooo stinkin' cute!
This thrifty tablescape is decorated with black eyed susan's from my garden and of course those tomatoes and a cuke, which have finally started to ripen on the vine. I think that it just wasn't warm enough in the beginning of August, but they are doing their thing now!
The vintage theme of this table reminds me of the pictures that you find in the 1940's and 1950's home decor and cookbooks, so I thought a black and white photo would bring it back to its roots. What I like most about the vintage milk glass is how it goes with most of the dishware that we have. The Polish Pottery was found at TJ Maxx a few years ago, and has become the fun dishware that is mix and match and finds its way into more of the casual tablescapes in our kitchen. Now for that cup of tea...would you like to join me?
♥, Susan

Very fun, Susan!
I love those candleholders and that last photo in black and white!

I love it!! Love the tablecloth and the sunny nook!! Cups with a fallish theme--nice. Fresh produce, nicer still! Hey why are people looking for old aluminum stuff--that stuff is bad for the health (I guess you could do something other than put food in it) ;-)
(I posted my tablescape on my spindle cottage blog--but I do have other blogs...that blog is going to be mostly for house type pics)

I was intrigued with your milk glass candle holders...I have one of the same, however it was an ashtray. I NEVER considered using it as a candle holder...thanks for the inspiration

I am IN LOVE with the vintage tablecloth. I have a few of them and buy them whenever they are priced right.
I've never seen a piece like your milk glass sweetener caddy.
Have a blessed day!

Now Susan, you for sure know I love that tablecloth! And my husband would like the Polish pottery cups. Such a pretty table, and fine looking tomatoes. I seem to recall your having a garage sale not too awful long ago... My neighbor has garage sales and then goes out and buys stuff and fills the garage again. So I'm just funnin' with ya now!

The black and white photo is great - looks like it could have been taken 50 years ago. I love this idea!

Oh Susan,
Your tablescape is lovely, but when you did the photo in black and white it was a charming flair. That would make a wonderful wall accent for a kitchen or dining room. You ought to do a series with different themes, and then use them as a wall grouping. See you are always inspiring. By the way, how did you get involved in these table top showings?

Susan,
Your veggies are gorgeous. Mine have not had a good year and I do not know why. So, I have depended on the farmer market this year.
I AM IN LOVE with your tablecloth! I collect vintage map linens so I am quite envious of such a beauty! Your home is precious!
What great thrifty treasures you have shared today! Thanks for linking up, my friend!
Hugs!

I REALLY love the table cloth!! So "summer" and so fun!
Someone had placed a basket of tomatoes like that on our faculty lunchroom table today with a sign that said, "Take some."
YUM - - - I ate one for lunch, and MEANT to go over after school to see if there were any left to take home - - - but I forgot until I saw yours.
