It never ceases to amaze me what we can learn in 24 hours. We had a power line go down during the blizzard (yes, at the Jersey Shore it was considered a blizzard) the other night. Power went out at dinner time, and did not return to our cul de sac until the end of the day yesterday. As I walked up the road in the morning, I was in awe of the quiet on the street. The beauty of the blue sky, and the magically peaceful feeling that comes from this serene moment. Where the night before,
it was dense and dark,
the morning after proved to be crisp and sunny. Getting our power back, and heat in the house, well...that was just the best!!
Melissa from the blog The Inspired Room, asks, what inspired you this week, and I want to say that it was the ability of husband and son to literally keep those home fires burning. They built a roaring fire, and kept it going through out the 24 hours that we were without power. You know that if it was cold enough to blizzard, it was too cold to be without heat.
I grew up without a fireplace and did not grow to appreciate it until we moved into our current home. It keeps us warm and cozy, is a focal point for the room, and a great place to display treasures. A roaring fire adds character, charm and energy to a quiet get together, and can also be very romantic. Not a bad thing with Valentines day coming up this weekend.
For those who may not be aware of the One World One Heart event hosted by the blog A Whimsical Bohemian, the time to join in has run out, however, there is still time to leave a comment on this post, to win this box. A vintage decoupaged glove box that I found at a yard sale last summer. The event has over a thousand entrants this year, and most are taking comments until February 14th. I will be choosing a random winner..all applicants numbers into a hat so to speak, on Monday the 15th. In order to be entered, you must have a blog or leave an email address so I can get in touch with you and just leave a comment on this post. It is a wonderful way to find new and very creative bloggers.
This post is being linked to Melissa's blog, The Inspired Room for her Friday Inspiration link up, A Beautiful Life.

I am so glad you had a source for heat during your time without electricity...and candles too.
Your pictures are soooo pretty.

Being without heat and power must have been horrible Susan! So glad everything is working for you again.
I never had a fireplace and have always wanted one! My husband bought a fake one for me in Home Depot a few years ago...looks pretty, but as you can imagine it is really not the same. :-)
