I love to read decorating magazines...shiny, glossy pages of beautiful home furnishings...linens and textiles that turn my head and make me drool. This is the time of year when many of those publications tell us what we should be collecting...NOW. This weekend I compared a few of the lists and learned that they don't necessarily agree with one another. Just like you and I will go to a yard, garage, rummage sale or flea market and look for something different. Many of us will go with no preconceived idea of what we are looking for...the treasure hunt. The "I will know it when I see it" method.
Along with reading a few new magazines this weekend, I attended a few yard sales.
One of the sales was a mother-lode of what the seller described as coffee table books. Two dollars each, and a deal if you buy more.
Pretty irresistible to me, I found the White by Design and Pure Sea Glass (which is signed by the author),
and a book about Summer cottages and castles, and this one about Provence. I also chose several other books rounding up my total to ten...I was charged 15.00 for the armload.
As I was getting ready to leave, my eyes landed on an Emma Bridgewater cup and saucer set and pitcher. Slightly chipped at the bottom of the cup and the bottom of the pitcher. Again irresistible, even with the chips, at two dollars the set. On my way home I stopped at one more sale...lots of bright colored plastic kids toys but then there was this one little vase.
Simple milk glass with a ruffled top and fluted bottom. Perfect for showing off the flowers whether they be roses from the garden or daisy's from the side of the road. Milk glass goes with everything!
Pixie checked out all of my finds, and gave me her approving nudge. Whew...so glad she will let me keep it..lol!
Getting back to the top ten lists of things to look for this summer...here is my plan.
I will always look for specific pieces of hammered aluminum, and I will be keeping my eyes open for vintage Bennington pottery especially the pieces in black and white. Other than that, I intend to let the universe surprise me. The treasure hunt is on...so what are you going to be looking for this year? Anything specific...or do you like to be surprised too?
♥, Susan
Milkglass looks good with cats, too! I'm going to try to focus on sewing items, but I probably won't rule out anything!

Hi Susan, I just visited your PS post I am late visiting this week. I commented on your lovely pink in case you don't check back.
I love yard sales and thrifty buys. Your purchases are lovely. I do admire the cup and saucer and pitcher. Also the vase. However, I love the cat and your hammered aluminum collection. It is awesome. I am not shipping for any one thing. Whatever hits me is my love for the day.
Happy days,
Love, Jeanne

I haven't had much luck at yard sales lately. And I admit, if I see tons of toys, I think it's not one of my places to shop and often don't stop. You got some great buys though!

You always manage to find such pretty things! Unfortunately the yard sales in my area don't usually hold many treasures that I'd want to buy, Susan, except that sometimes I will find a book or two. I collect Irish Belleek china so I would be thrilled to find a piece of that at a good price.

On the other side was Viktor Orbán in a soccer uniform with socks in the national colors kicking a soccer ball over the net for Martonyi to catch with his racket. Well, this was a very apt depiction of the situation. Unfortunatelasdfy, Orbán has no talent for diplomacy. As a result Hungary's relations with her neighbors as well as with the United States, Europe, and Russia hit rock bottom between 1998 and 2002.
