This is the way I am feeling right now...
That would be the squished fairy picture that has been hanging on the wall in my daughter's bedroom for years. It is all coming down...the fairies, the books, the teenage angst and sweet stuffed animals. It all started with that bathroom renovation...not nearly finished yet. We moved our young adults downstairs into smaller bedrooms, this room in particular was originally her older sisters room and I understand that before we bought this house it was the bedroom of two other teenage girls.
With our youngest two kids in college right now, they just didn't need the big rooms any more...Mom and Dad need these rooms now..we need the quiet and the privacy. So the bathroom reno has turned into an entire upstairs reno. First problem....we only had the budget for the bathroom. Second problem....this is the room we will be moving our offices/studio into as well as the den/tv room....just for us. With no budget (two college tuitions), I have come to the conclusion that we will need a ton of elbow grease to make this work...shampoo the carpet and paint the walls a creamy white. Stay tuned...this may take a while.
In the mean time, let me divert your attention to something much more lovely and exciting. This is one of my favorite furniture stores in the area and it was not open this morning when I took these pictures so excuse the not-so-great photography. I am madly, passionately in love with the pewter colored sofa in the lower right hand corner.
Here is a better picture (remember I took this picture through the window of the store). The black arc lamp over it, the fantastic blue accent pillows it is all so very me! I also liked the white birch lamp, and I know that all of my very clever friends would say that I could make one but my neighbors would not let me cut down their tree...
and it would look so good with the one existing piece of furniture that I want to keep in this room, the feather stuffed, silk covered comfy chair with matching ottoman that I bought several years ago at an estate sale for the grand total of $5.00. At any rate, this is one of three rooms that we are now working on...any ideas will happily be considered, so all of you armchair decorators please let me know what you think. I know you have some great ideas! If anyone from HGTV wants to step in, please let me know. If Nate Berkus happens to read this, we love your style and sure...in a heart beat...we would love for you to redo this room. If anyone out there desperately wants to help paint a room, by all means...the pizza is on us!! Stay tuned...this can only get better...right?

You're too funny. Maybe Nate will ring your doorbell. I like the sofa too.
Dropping by from Met Monday, with a post on repurposed shelving.

I'm going through the very same thing - I guess I'd best post about it too. I'll be redoing an upstairs bedroom and the only new things are fabric (1.99/yd) and paint. A friend has offered to come paint with me and that's GOLD!
Good luck with your room - can't wait to see how it all turns out.

What a nice mosaic and series of photos. It looks like you all are in major reno mode. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it once everything is the way you want it. Happy MM.

Out with the old, in with the new. It's a challenge. Best of luck with your painting and renovating.

Susan, I remember well the strain of paying two college tuitions ...someday it will be over and you will be able to treat yourselves with lots of decorating! Right now I think you'll enjoy your larger private bedroom no matter how it looks. I'm traveling this week ... it's nice and warm here!

So exciting to start a new project. This one looks large but it will be a wonderful space when it is finished. Keep us posted. V

That would be wonderful to decorate, even on a budget, a place just for the TV and crafts, etc. Love that pewter colored couch. Looking forward to see how everything turns out.

That would be a great little studio or office for you!

Decorating is fun, but as you know, it's work! And W O R K is a four-letter word!
Happy Blue Monday, Sue.

So many changes!!! We are in the process of figuring out where to go with all of my candle stuff. Mikey's room was one thought but he isn't officially moved out yet and there is no other bedroom to put him into when he is back on weekends.
Therefore, I find myself happy for you that you can get to work on this project. It will be very rewarding when it is done.

Ah, a wonderful reno to welcome spring I think I might dive into that chaos of sooner this month. Take a slow breathe and a cup of tea to make you feel a little bit relaxed. Hope to see the the outputs in your post.

Oh I know ALL about that "it all started with a bathroom" thing, lol!! Our attic is oh-so-close to being done...I wish had taken more before photos because it's kind of amazing. If I do say so myself. :-)
I love that chair mucho and WOW $5!! You KNOW I love that! You can make the room seem lofty and modern with the fabulous dormered ceiling...I love the muted colors of the chair and that fabulous lamp (which I hope you buy as your statement piece...and what store is that?) and you can make an inexpensive "statement" by putting a (Home Goods!!) rug over your w-to-w carpet. Can't wait to see what you do!

Renovating while paying tuition - I hear you! I'm sure it just inspires us to be even more creative (that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)

What a great open space to work with! I am sure it will be fantastic when you are finished. And so much more satisfying to do it the thrifty way! :)
