October is the perfect month for carnivals, fairs and festivals. It is a little cooler outside (at least it is cooler at the Jersey Shore) and that tends to rev up ones appetite. Next weekend we have a large outdoor craft show and a sea glass festival that I am hoping to attend. I am particularly excited to see what a sea glass festival is comprised of. Many of us who have grown up on a beachy coast have some sort of a sea shell or sea glass collection.
I wrote about mine in this post last year.
This weekend we attended the second annual Guinness and Oyster festival in Red Bank, NJ. Since it is a hop and a skip from our house, we got there early to see what was going on.
Some of the booths weren't quite ready for company yet!! Some were raring to go...
with samples of everything including fudge...pumpkin fudge? Not so much!
True to the theme of the festival the oysters were shucked fresh right in front of our eyes and could not have been better. When it comes to oysters, The Lusty Lobster in Highlands, NJ never disappoints!
Some of the food was not really thematic to the event but delicious just the same.
The weather could not have been better with a nice thick cloud covering earlier this morning...perfect for those who can't be in the sun, like me....then giving way this afternoon to clear blue skies.
As we were walking down the street the thunder of many, many motorcycles caught our attention.
In addition to the Guinness and Oyster Fest, there was a fund raiser that these motorcyclists were a part of....can you say gridlock? It was so much fun to look at all of the motorcycles and the riders...they wear the coolest jackets! It was a very good day to be in Red Bank and yes, I really think that October is the best month for festivals.
Linking this post to Smiling Sally for Blue Monday and Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.

Pumpkin fudge...I agree...not so much. Looks like a fun adventure. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Cherry Kay

Hi Susan, This is such a great time of year with everyone attending all types of festivals, flees, and home tours. I think the one you attended would be fun. I see they had great food and goodies to keep you happy while enjoying all the fun. Thanks for sharing all your great photos. Have a great week........

Oh man I love the festivals too. One just up the road this week-end. St. James Arts and Craft Fair. They have a huge fountain in the St. James Square and it bubbled pink water for the two days for October Cancer Month. Beautiful but forgot my camera. WooHoo that is awful. Another big one next week-end.

I've had pumpkin fudge, it's really good!
I have to say this festival really beats the 'Carrot Fest' that is held in the town south to us. Carrots are a big crop grown on the marsh there and of course there's someone that dresses up like a huge carrot.
Thanks for sharing this awesome festival with its yummy food.

That was fun! I'd have tried the pumpkin fudge. My husband wants to know what a zeppoli is because he's pretty sure he'd try that.

Vee, it is fried dough and it is served with powdered sugar on it...think funnel cake but in a nugget!

LOL @ the mannequins! Fudge looks great, but I'd definitely have loved a zeppole or two! Fun festival.

Wow, I wish that I could have gone! Not so sure about the oysters, but the Guinness sounds great and any Red Bank festival is fun in my book!
Miss you and love you, I'll be SEEING YOU NEXT WEEK! :D

Looks and sounds like a fun time. Someone else could have my share of the oysters - I am not a fan.

Oh..Looks like such fun! Here in Cincinnati
we have Octoberfests...Cincy is of german heritage, so breweries abounded til the 80's

Oh Susan, thank you so much for "bringing" us along to the festival. As a former Long Islander, now living in central PA, I miss festivals where they shuck the oysters or clams right before your eyes. {sigh} I do have my small collection of sea glass here (gathered from Fire Island) to sooth me just a bit...
Thanks again...
