Another season come and gone, something more to look forward to next year. The plots in the community garden are all but barren now...bits and pieces of oranges, reds and golds can be seen here and there in the left over marigold or nasturtium. This is the time we turn our attention to holidays with family and friends, football games, and finding ways to spruce up the house. After all, we will be spending more time indoors now. The picture above is of things that I particularly liked when out and about this week. The berries on the Holly trees are bright red, the old water pump at the gardens which I hope and pray the powers that be do not decide to remove, the rose-hip wreath on the front door of Shutters and the over-sized flower containers also at Shutters.
The Hornets nest in the community garden is gone...
Here is a montage of what it was and what it looks like now. Some of us were wondering what it looked like inside and this close up will give you an idea...
I learned that animals instinctively know that when it gets cold out the bees will be gone and they ( I am thinking raccoons maybe) will go up in the tree and destroy the nest. Once the bees leave, the nest becomes lifeless and then falls apart anyway.
Adieux to the bees, adieux to the garden ...see you next year!!
Getting back to my trip to Shutters in Fair Haven, NJ, the ladies are preparing the store for the holidays. If you are feeling at all blah about your home or the holidays, stop by the store. It is just gorgeous in there and here is a sneak preview ...
The window on the left, the white window with the little wreath? I was told that there are two of them...oh how I would love to flank a mirror or big window in the house with them in their perfect chippy white paint! The light fixture is so cool...it is perfectly rustic. The front window is still set up for Thanksgiving, but I have a feeling this autumnal goodness will be gone very soon so here is a peek through the window right now...
and here is a closeup of the window...
and I learned that Shutters is having a holiday open house preview on Thursday, November 3rd from 10 AM till 9PM with the added incentive of 15% off. What a great way to start the holiday season.
This post is being linked to A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday, It's a Very Cherry World for Rednesday, and Faded Charm for White Wednesday because I am in love with this white gothic window!!

Oh yes, that window is to die for! I just bought two old windows I hope to have ready for hanging on my family room wall before Christmas. Can't wait to share them. I saw a light just like that at a store here in UT. I loved it!! The next time I was there it had sold. I was so sad. Now I'm glad that I can see it here. The hornets nest is awesome. Yes, farewell to our winged friends. Until spring, farewell!

I am a great supporter of community gardens. There are so many varieties of plants and "accents" they put in their respective plots.
See all the blooms next time!

That bee's nest has been most fascinating. I did not know that it would be abandoned or that the other critters would ravage it. I wonder if the bees will return instinctively next year and rebuild? Anyway, it was so gorgeous. I love, love, love your community garden :->
