Better late than never, but it is finally here at the Jersey Shore..
I have been waiting for this to happen...for the leaves to magically turn into the colors of a crayon box...
and for this brief little time of the year to bask in the glory of Autumn.
Even if it is only for a week or two, I love this moment when my sights are set on Thanksgiving. The ceramic turkeys come out along with the fall dishware.
In the November issue of Martha Stewart living magazine, the front cover is a picture of a pumpkin meringue pie. I am thinking of trying this recipe, seems that instead of whipped cream the meringue might go very nicely on a pumpkin pie. Just as I was preparing to give this pie a try though, I saw this on TV... From the Flying Monkey Bakery in the Reading Terminal in Philadelphia, this is a Pumpple cake. Now, as you may know, I pretty much grew up in the bakery business. My Dad and my Grandfather both owned bakeries, and I am no stranger to shock value as we have 3 college age kids in our house, so there is very little at this point that you can show me that would create the shock and awe I felt at seeing this cake. What a crazy, gutsy idea...wish I had thought of it!! The bottom half is a chocolate cake with an entire pumpkin pie baked into the cake and the top half is an apple pie baked into a yellow cake. The two cakes are then assembled into one cake frosted and filled with buttercream. The shocking truth is that I feel the need to try this...at least try one pie baked into one cake. So now that you know this I am asking...what are your thoughts on this subject??

WOW! That is impressive. Not sure if I'd love all those flavors together. I like the chocolate pumpkin and the vanilla apple, but separately. But I still would be willing to try it as is, LOL!

I've GOT to get out and get photos of these gorgeous leaves in Tulsa, you have reminded me, before they're gone!

That is a lot of desert for one serving! My friend wanted to try something like this only with an apple pie and a cherry pie. Let us know if you ever try it out.

PS My teenage son thinks that it would AWESOME!

I saw the Pumpple Cake on some show on the Food Network a while back and was equally impressed. When I was about 20 years younger, I might have actually tried making it, but it'll be pumpkin pie or pumpkin ginger trifle (as usual) for us this Thanksgiving! lol
If you do give it a whirl, I hope you'll post all the yummy details. (with pictures, of course)
Have a great weekend!

It is finally fall around here in Brooklyn, too, Susan! It took longe enough to arrive this year...lol It was so blustery today that I ran out to take photos of the trees before all the leaved blew away.
I'm not too sure about that cake ...a million calories a slice? It does have shock value!
One year my brother served a "turducken" for Thankgiving at his house -- it is a dish consisting of a de-boned chicken stuffed into a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed into a de-boned turkey. Another overboard combination!

So glad the brilliant reds and oranges finally came out. That cake is intriguing but more than one bite and I'd be on sugar overload.
